Security experts say #healthcare record #hacking is skyrocketing — up 11,000 percent last year alone. You read that right: ELEVEN THOUSAND PERCENT. Apparently, roughly 1 out of 3 three Americans (100 million stolen last year) had their healthcare records compromised and most are completely unaware. Such hacks give criminals a wealth of personal information that, unlike a credit card number, can last forever.

Many of those records show up for sale on the “dark web” where hackers openly advertise what they’ve stolen. Since stolen credit cards go for $1-$3 each, and Social Security numbers fetch $15, it is easy to understand the appeal of selling healthcare records which go for $60 each. The reason they are such as gold mine is because these records can be used to order prescriptions, pay for treatments and surgery, and even file false tax returns.
This is pretty scary stuff. This article offers a few tips to protect yourself, but apparently, this is a huge problem and we believe it will likely get much worse before it gets better.
